What Are Profit Boosts?
Profit boosts are promotions offered by sportsbooks that increase your potential payout on a winning bet. A "50% profit boost" means if you win, your profit (not stake) is multiplied by 1.5x. For example, a $100 bet at +200 normally pays $200 profit. With a 50% boost, it pays $300 profit instead. These promos are the bread and butter of smart bettors because they create a mathematical edge that can be converted into guaranteed cash through hedging.
The Hedging Math
Hedging converts a boosted bet into guaranteed profit. Place the boosted bet on one side, then bet the opposite outcome at another sportsbook. The key formula: Hedge Amount = (Boosted Stake x Boosted Decimal) / Hedge Decimal. This equalizes your payout on both outcomes. The profit comes from the boost itself, the sportsbook is effectively giving you free money, and hedging locks it in regardless of the outcome. The tighter the hedge odds (less vig), the more profit you extract.
Conversion Rates
Conversion rate measures what percentage of the boost value you extract as guaranteed cash. For profit boosts, a 70-80% conversion is considered excellent. For free bets (SNR), typical conversions are 60-80% depending on the odds used. Higher odds (+300 and above) generally yield better free bet conversions because the stake-not-returned penalty is a smaller portion of the total payout.
