Hutching Calculator

Hutching is a staking method where you distribute your total budget across multiple selections weighted by your personal confidence in each outcome. Unlike dutching, which aims for equal profit on any winner, hutching allocates more to selections you believe are most likely to win or offer the best value. The term is derived as the confidence-weighted counterpart to the traditional dutching approach.

Dutching splits stakes so every winning outcome yields the same profit — great for certainty, but it ignores your opinion on likelihood. Hutching respects your edge: if you believe one selection is far more likely, it gets a proportionally larger stake. Dutching is defensive (hedging), while hutching is offensive (exploiting perceived value). Use dutching when you have no opinion; use hutching when you do.

Your confidence rating (1-10) for each selection is combined with the implied value from the odds to produce a weight. A confidence of 8 on a 3.00 selection produces a higher weight than a confidence of 3 on the same odds. This means you are not just following your gut — you are scaling stakes by both belief and potential reward, which is the foundation of value betting.

Hutching works best when you have genuine insight into the relative probabilities of outcomes — for example, in horse racing where you study form, or in football where you track team news. It is less suitable for markets where you have no informational edge. Combine with the Expected Value display to verify your confidence ratings imply positive EV before committing real money.
